My idea is to bring mental awareness to the Lansing Community through a free class at Froster Community Center once a month. When I was younger I hung out at the Lansing Foster Community Center with my brother’s and sister’s. The Foster Community Center offers a place for the Lansing Community to go to for many different types of classes. I would like to add a Mental Awareness class that could be an informal place for the Lansing Community to come and learn more about the importance of mental health in the community.
With the rise of depression and aggression in our society it is imperative that the community is given the resources to cope with the increasing stresses of life. Psychiatric care is very expensive and the lower income populations do not have the resources or opportunity to pursue such health avenues. I would like to organize Psychiatrics and Psychologists from the Lansing community to speak monthly at Foster Community Center, if that is an available place to have these meetings, and allow the community to learn about mental health. In these meetings the community can come to learn more about how to maintain a healthy mind.
In these monthly meetings I envision the Greater Lansing Community and mental health workers coming together to foster a non-profit organization with a vision to make the Greater Lansing Area a mentally healthy environment to live in.
