II. Eligibility
Open to any student enrolled in a Greater Lansing high school. Participating institutions located in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton Counties only.
III. How and When to Enter

Competition runs from November 15, 2010 to March 23, 2011. Enter for free by logging on to www.nextbrightidea.com. Beginning November 15, submit your idea(s) by uploading a video describing your idea (maximum length :60) and completing all fields under “the “Add Ideas” link. Students can submit their ideas until midnight on February 4, 2011. Enter early as a way to gain public attention for your idea and to hear feedback on how to improve it. Judging and voting for the Fan Favorite will begin February 5, 2010 and lasts until midnight on February 25, 2011. Five finalists will be selected and notified by Noon on Friday, March 4, 2011. All finalists will be required to present their ideas before a panel of judges at an event to be held on Wednesday, March 23, starting at 4:00 p.m. Presentations are limited to three minutes. A winner will be chosen and announced at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2010.
Sponsor is not responsible for failed, partial or garbled computer transmissions, or for technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to electronic malfunction or damage of any network, hardware or software. If for any reason the contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or other causes that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the sweepstakes, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest. No responsibility is assumed for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; or any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure or any e-mail or electronic entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web-site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials from this contest.
Entries remain the property of Sponsor and will not be returned or acknowledged. Contest begins November 15, 2010 and ends March 23, 2011. All entries must be received by February 4, 2011.
IV. How and When Winners will be Selected
Each contestant will be judged in the following five categories:
1. Creativity of idea
2. Viability of idea
3. Scalability of idea
4. Benefit to the Greater Lansing region
5. Presentation skills
Judges will rank each contestant on a scale of 1-10 (1 being poor, 10 being excellent) in each category. At the end of the presentation, scores for each contestant will be tallied and divided by the number of judges. The contestant with the highest average score will be the winner of Next Bright Idea.
V. Prizes
The winners of Next Bright Idea will win prizes totaling $2,250 to further develop their ideas. In addition the students’ host schools will receive prizes totaling $650.
Federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner.
Prize must be used as specified or will be forfeited.
VI. Releases
By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of the Sponsor/Judges and the contest administrator, which shall be final in all respects.
By allowing Leap, Inc./Next Bright Idea ("us" or "we") to videotape your comments ("Materials") for Next Bright Idea, you hereby grant to us, our affiliates and licensees, a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to copy, edit, adapt, distribute, perform, display, and/or use, the Materials, including any derivative works created from the Materials, in whole or in part, for any purpose and in any manner, form, format or medium, now known or later developed, including without limitation, on the Internet, in print and on-air, and/or in any advertising or promotions. In addition, you grant to us the royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to use your name, likeness, and biographical information in connection with the use of the Materials. You also grant to us the right to sublicense to any person or entity the unrestricted right to exercise any of the rights you have granted to us in this agreement.
By entering this competition, you represent that you are at least 18 years old or have permission from your parent or guardian, and agree to indentify and hold harmless us, Leap, Inc/Next Bright Idea, our parent company, affiliates and licenses, from any loss, claim, damage or expense arising from the use of the Materials or your breach of this Agreement, including the above representations.
By entering this competition, you understand and agree that you will not have any right of approval over the use of the Materials pursuant to this Agreement and you will not receive any compensation as a result of any use of the Materials or the rights granted pursuant to this agreement. You also understand and agree that nothing in this agreement obligates us to use the Materials. This agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the Sponsors and you with respect to the subject matter of the agreement and supersedes all previous and contemporaneous agreements, proposals and communications, written oral. This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Michigan without giving effect to any principles or conflicts of law.
