“After the competition, I received many great comments towards my idea. Due to all the positive responses, my interest in this project has increased. Considering all the research that has to be done, I think my first step to moving forward on this idea is talk to a gym owner. I plan on charting which machines are used the most, and which are likely to produce the most amount of energy. Then I would talk to my brother (my partner) and find out where to go from there.”
-Jill Wamhoff, Self-Sustaining Gym Next Bright Idea High School Winner
“My next steps with the Universal Job Application is to start building the website. I have done a lot of the pre-work already. I just want to put together a final product that will show employers why this is useful.”
-Randel Tomina, Universal Job Application Next Bright Idea College/Community Winner
Simply put, “Next Bright Idea” is an idea competition. We want to foster and reward smart and innovative thinking and ideas to make the world a better place. Traditional business model ideas, non-traditional inspirations, ideas that can help the community, or a non-profit or civic organization. All ideas are strongly encouraged! Next Bright Idea finalists will be chosen through an online voting process at www.NextBrightIdea.com, and feedback from competition judges. Finalists will be required to present their ideas in-person before a panel of judges later this year. The Next Bright Idea winners will win some great prizes, including money to further develop their idea, and a slew of other resources to get their idea started!
Take a look at the 2011 finalists below!
The Next Bright Idea competition wants to show students that Greater Lansing is committed to cultivating a culture and spirit of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, and provides vast resources to help them develop their great ideas. At the same time, it is important to show the rest of Michigan, as well as the rest of the world, that smart and innovative ideas are sprouting up all over this region. The Next Bright Idea competition is a component of a larger movement that takes Greater Lansing to the NEXT level.
